Heavyweight champion Tyson Fury announces retirement

Fury reportedly failed a test administered by the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association.

"Soon as I get better I'll be defending what's mine: the heavyweight throne".

"I've been out drinking, Monday to Friday to Sunday, and taking cocaine", Fury told Rolling Stone magazine.

The video showed Kokkalenios at the wheel of a auto, talking to an unidentified person behind the camera and suggesting Klitschko was somehow involved in the cocaine reports about Fury.

This follows varying reports which have surfaced in the media, with some claiming that Fury's withdrawal is due to mental health issues, and others stemming from a belief that Fury had recently tested positive for cocaine.

Fury has been caught up in controversy since he defied the odds to defeat Wladimir Klitschko for the IBF, WBO and WBA heavyweight titles past year.

In retirement, Fury's titles routinely become vacant, increasing the likelihood Klitschko will fight for them. I don't know what's wrong with me.

A member of the travelling community, Fury says there are people who want him thrown out of the sport and fears he may not live to see the end of the year as he battles his demons.

Fury made light of the reports in a previous Twitter post on Saturday.

"I'm not saying everything he's done's right - not even a "You've done right, you've done wrong" - (he needs) a "It'll be alright, don't worry about it, chin up".

Fury had been scheduled to earn the biggest purse of his career for his second fight with Klitschko at the Manchester Arena this month.

Let's hope that the final tweet is accurate, as recent comments from Fury's good friend, middleweight titlist Billy Joe Saunders, suggest that the 28-year-old is really struggling at present.

Fury won over a number of fans when he defeated Klitchko in a mostly forgettable fight in Germany, but a number of incidents since have tested the patience of Boxing fans. But I think governing bodies, promoters, managers, the public need to take their foot off him a little bit and give him a little bit of space.

The reigning champion, though, faces a UK Anti-Doping hearing in November after traces of a banned substance were found in a urine sample he provided in June.

Fury's trainer and uncle Peter Fury later opened up to Sky Sports about his nephew's problems and said the fighter would recover and return to the ring.
