South Africa's Zuma to hold trade talks with Uhuru

Other issued discussed in the visit include the submission of Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed for the post of chairperson of the African Union Commission, the reopening of the South African market to avocados from Kenya and South Africa's backing in consolidating and expanding counter-terrorism efforts to stop violent extremism.

On Tuesday October 11, 2016 Uhuru Kenya hosted the president of South Africa Jacob Zuma and one of his wives Zikale Zuma at State House for dinner, but, what caused the on going online frenzy is the choice of drink president Uhuru chose to take.

During the State visit, President Zuma will meet President Uhuru Kenyatta to exchange views on regional, continental and global issues of mutual concern.

The two countries are scheduled to sign agreements and Memoranda of Understanding in the fields of defence, police, home affairs, environment, revenue services, and infrastructure development.

According to PSCU, the National Anthems of Kenya and South Africa were played followed by the Kenya Defence Forces firing 21 cannon shots. "In our view, there is no reason why both our countries can not agree on the exemption of visas for each other's citizens", said Kenyatta.

South Africa has set tough visa conditions for Kenyans, including a Sh4,200 ($42) processing fee for visas, which often require at least five working days to process.

The Kenyan leader said they had agreed to increase the trade between the two countries by progressively removing all barriers to trade starting with non-tariff barriers that prevent Kenya from exporting agricultural produce to South Africa.

Zuma also agreed that his country will remove all barriers to trade starting with non-tariff trade barriers that have always prevented Kenyan farmers from exporting agricultural goods such as coffee and tea.

Earlier President Zuma laid a wreath at the mausoleum of the First President of Kenya, Mzee Jomo Kenyatta.

The two leaders also spoke on security matters in Somalia, South Sudan, and Burundi.
