Joachim Low extends Germany contract until 2020

If Loew stays in office until 2020, his 14-year reign would make him the joint second-longest serving Germany coach, equal to Helmut Schoen (1964-78).

Loew, who took charge of the die Mannschaft after the 2006 World Cup following two years as assistant coach under Jurgen Klinsmann, will reportedly receive a pay rise to earn four million euros ($4.4m) per year.

"It's great that this will be possible", said Loew in a press conference on Monday to confirm his contract extension until 2020.

"He has a real determination and motivation to defend the World Cup in Russian Federation".

He took to the team to the 2008 European Championship final, won the World Cup in 2014 and finished at the semifinal stage of the 2010 World Cup and 2012 and 2016 European Championship.

Low urged Germany to follow suit: "The only thing that counts is for us to qualify as group winners for the World Cup".

Germany were beaten by France in the semi-finals of Euro 2016, but have begun the qualifying campaign for the 2018 World Cup in Russian Federation well.

Reinhard Grindel, president of the German football entity said Low is the best coach the board of the DFB can imagine for selection.

Under his guide, Germany have reached at least the semi-finals in the last 5 major tournaments, winning 94 of their 141 games.

Grindel added that Loew's new deal was "reward" for the coach's hard work, but the president wanted to get the contract signed before the German FA meets in Erfurt on Thursday and Friday.

They top Group C with three wins from three, with an away match in San Marino next up on November 11. "He has shaped the team in the past years with his passion and high professional competence, which was further developed at the World Cup".

Loew appears completely at ease in the role and recently ruled out a return to the Bundesliga.
