Knee injury sidelines Knicks' Rose for remainder of season

New York Knicks star Derrick Rose will miss the remainder of the season after suffering a fresh knee injury, the National Basketball Association team confirmed Sunday.

Those close to Rose expect him to be at full health two months after the surgery, which will be scheduled shortly.

In the 2012-13 season opener, Rose tore his ACL and missed the entire year. The Knicks announced that an MRI had revealed the injury and that Rose would require an arthroscopy. He then tore the meniscus in his right knee in his first season back from surgery, costing him the final 72 games.

"He will be out for the remaining five games of season", the Knicks said. Now, it has developed into yet another major injury to add on to an extensive list of health issues that derailed his promising career.

Rose, 28, spent his first seven seasons with the Chicago Bulls until he was traded to the New York Knicks following the 2016 season.

The team has already been eliminated from the playoffs, and there are only six games left in the regular season, but there is obvious concern about Rose's future as he heads into free agency this summer. The Knicks sent the Bulls center Robin Lopez and guard Jerian Grant in the deal. He averaged 18 points and 4.4 assists for a team with a 29-47 record entering Sunday's game against Boston. "I'll be a free agent".
