Microsoft To Release Major Windows 10 Updates Twice A Year

Just a few weeks after shipping the Creators Update, Microsoft says it now plans on releasing new versions of Windows in a "predictable twice-per-year" pattern: once in March, and once in September.

The Redmond giant reiterates its commitment towards the deployment and servicing Windows 10 and Office 365 ProPlus making it easier for organisations.

Frankly, I think this is too aggressive: Microsoft should target one feature release of these products per year, in my opinion. Office 365 ProPlus will have its major updates at the same time. The company rolled out the Creators Update in April this year for all Windows 10 users. As per the new schedule, the next Windows update, code-named Redstone 3, will be released in September. Users will have to select the app they want to switch off power throttling and after selecting the app they can toggle Manage by Windows to off. Users will then need to uncheck the "Reduce work app does when in background" checkbox.

The reverse engineered scripts have now been released to GitHub for inspection, fiddling and general jiggery-pokery, but word on the street is that they work and that after patching, all security updates are reinstated.

Microsoft recently enforced a rule that stops computers running Intel Kaby Lake microprocessors from installing updates to pre-Windows 10 operating systems. Because the processor is not supported together with the Windows version you are now using, your system will miss important security updates. Now, after the latest announcement, we could look forward to bi-annual major updates for Windows 10 PCs around the world.

The company said the update also allows users to broadcast their gameplay on Windows 10 and Xbox One via a built-in broadcasting technology.

The company says it committed to this new schedule to help out system administrators across the Globe, who can now plan ahead for upcoming Windows 10 major releases.

In terms of application compatibility, Microsoft has announced four new investments: Upgrade assessment tools, application compatibility testing, Office 365 ProPlus monitoring services and reporting, tracking and resolving issues.
