Trump Confident Senate Will Join House in Repealing US Health Law

May 09, 2017, 07:55

Even for an opponent of Obamacare, it is hard to understand why House Republicans chose this path to revamping the nation's health care system.

In his remarks, Obama said he hopes that lawmakers recognize "it actually doesn't take a lot of courage to aid those who are already powerful, already comfortable, already influential". Democrats are positioning health care as the issue that will help them regain control of the House.

The ad will appear on national cable and in Ryan's Wisconsin district. This insurance underwriting practice is now banned by the Affordable Care Act, and is one of the health law's most popular provisions.

Democrats, none of whom voted for the bill, said millions would lose coverage, especially those with pre-existing conditions.

"These Republicans voted to take away people's health care". Enter The Hangover. Taking on the roles of Ed Helms' Stu, Bradley Cooper's Phil, and Mike Tyson's tiger are House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy, Speaker of the House Paul Ryan, and President Trump, respectively. The newest version allocated $8 billion to states so help cover people with pre-existing conditions. States can then use federal money to fund government-operated insurance programs for expensive patients called "high-risk pools".

That might seem self-evident, as it's exactly what Republicans have been saying the past six years. She says a high-risk pool in ME worked only because it had a clear source of funding.

Both spoke on ABC's "This Week".

By a mere four votes and with 21 GOP reps voting no or not voting, House Republicans managed to push through legislation that repeals the Affordable Care Act (aka Obamacare) and replaces it with the American Healthcare Act (AHCA).

Several top Republicans in the senate have voiced skepticism of the House plan, which they say places too many costs on older, poorer Americans and would burden some states with high healthcare costs. Ryan said the House vote was one part of a "multistage process".

Rocco Orlando says, "There is unity in everyone who provides healthcare that this is not a good situation".

But Collins said she thinks the upper chamber will "come up with a whole new fresh approach that solves the legitimate flaws that do exist with the [Affordable Care Act]. but it will keep some benefits of the ACA".

About 2.2 million people in the individual insurance market have some sort of pre-existing chronic condition, according to Avalere. Perhaps the cruelest twist of this bill is that it will use most of the $1 trillion over ten years which would have gone to provide health care and health coverage to low- and middle-income Americans to provide tax cuts for the wealthiest among us.

In his Twitter comment, Trump contended, "ObamaCare premiums and deductibles are way up - it was a lie and it is dead!"

Confronted with Trump's campaign promise on Sunday, the president's health secretary Tom Price insisted there would be no Medicaid cuts at all under the GOP plan, even though the cuts are undeniable.

Cutting almost $1 trillion from Medicaid will give states the freedom to tailor the program to suit their needs, Health and Human Services Secretary Tom Price said Sunday, as he defended a narrowly passed House bill that aims to undo parts of the health care law enacted by the previous administration.
