While the officials who revealed the contacts noted that they saw no evidence of wrongdoing in the contacts between the campaign and Russian Federation, the fact remains that the optics are not good for the White House, especially in the wake of the investigation. They say sources have revealed that there were at least 18 undisclosed contacts between members of the Trump campaign and Russians.

Trump national security adviser Mike Flynn resigned in February after it came to light that he had lied about a December meeting with Kislyak in which he discussed lifting US sanctions on Russian Federation.

The unnamed US government officials who described these contacts to Reuters said, however, that they saw no evidence of wrongdoing or collusion.

The previously undisclosed interactions form part of the record now being reviewed by Federal Bureau of Investigation and congressional investigators.

In a written statement, Trump insisted anew there were no nefarious ties between his campaign and Russian Federation.

What's more, six of the contacts in the report by Reuters were reportedly between Russian ambassador Sergey Kislyak and Trump advisers, including the likes of Michael Flynn.

Reports also now seem to confirm that multiple conversations between Flynn and Kislyak took place, where they discussed ways in which they could set up a direct back channel between Trump and Putin in order to avoid the "hostile" USA national security bureaucracy. After the White House first announced that the firing was not related to the alleged ties with Russia, President Trump told NBC News anchor Lester Holt in an interview, according to CNN, that part of the reason Comey was sacked was his insistence of moving forward with "this Russia thing". No one from either the Trump administration or the Russian government has been willing to comment on the report of the additional contacts.

The revelations come the morning after it was announced the Justice Department has appointed former FBI Director Robert Mueller as a special counsel to lead a federal investigation into allegations that Donald Trump's campaign collaborated with Russian Federation to sway the 2016 election that put him in the White House. Mueller will head the FBI investigation that began last July. According to the report, Putin is godfather to Medvedchuk's daughter.

"I am not acquainted with any of Donald Trump's close associates, therefore no such conversation could have taken place", he said.

But here's the question Watson doesn't want to touch: If these contacts between Trump's campaign officials and Russians were the completely innocent things Trump's allies claim, then why lie about them? According to a Reuters/Ipsos poll released May 15, 59 percent of Americans, including a growing number of Republicans, want an independent investigation into the possible Trump connections with Russian Federation. -Russian economic relations. Russian officials said they wanted to take a more business-like approach to deal making and focus less on hot-button issues that have cooled relations between the nations in the last few years.
