May 22, 2017, 00:05

Our YouGov poll today reveals the Tories enjoy an 18-point lead over Labour, but Mrs May's approval rating is an enormous 60 points higher than Mr Corbyn's.

However, the Conservatives still command a hefty lead of between 14 and 15 points, according to the polls conducted by Opinium and ORB.

The Conservatives were at 47 percent, up 1 percent from Opinium's previous poll a week ago, against Labour's 32 percent, up 2 percent.

Ukip saw its coverage fall by 10% in the press and 3% on TV compared to 2015, while the SNP (down 7% in the press and 5% on TV) and Liberal Democrats (down 3% in the newspapers and 1% in TV broadcasts) endured smaller declines.

All three of the new surveys were conducted before Labour's manifesto was leaked on Thursday.

Speaking at the Chatham House worldwide affairs think-tank in London, Corbyn said the world was "becoming more dangerous" due to war, climate change, the refugee crisis and a "grotesque level of inequality". UKIP's support fell sharply at the start of the campaign and only seems to have gotten worse since then and while many expected the Liberal Democrats to increase their support during the campaign, it has yet to happen.

By comparison, Lib Dem leader Tim Farron featured in 6.4% of news items, shadow chancellor John McDonnell in 6.1%, European Council president Donald Tusk in 2.9% and Ukip leader Paul Nuttall and the SNP's Nicola Sturgeon each in 2.6%.
