1 killed, dozens injured in caste violence in northern India

The Centre has sent 400 anti-riot police personnel to Saharanpur in Uttar Pradesh on Thursday to help the state restore peace in the region where caste clashes have claimed two lives.
Dalits say upper caste Thakurs had earlier prevented them from installing a statue of BR Ambedkar on the premises of the Ravidas temple in the village.
According to an Outlook report, during her visit to Shabbirpur village, the BSP chief blamed the BJP-led UP government for the continuing violence and said that they had failed to stop their own party brigades from inciting clashes.
In other clashes, Dalits were attacked in two different places near Chandpura village by unidentified people.
Blaming the Yogi Adityanath government of Uttar Pradesh for the violent clashes between Dalits and upper castes in Saharanpur, the CPI-M on Wednesday demanded action in the matter, including protection and monetary compensation for the Dalits. The incident occurred after a rally was held in Shabbirpur by Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati.
