Celtic leave it late as Rogic's dramatic strike clinches treble

May 28, 2017, 01:57

Substitute Tom Rogic's sensational injury-time victor gave Celtic a 2-1 William Hill Scottish Cup final success over Aberdeen and clinched a historic treble for the Hoops.

Celtic fired back nearly immediately when the ball broke to Stuart Armstrong on the edge of the Aberdeen area and he struck a low shot past Joe Lewis to level the scores.

Celtic's joy was short-lived as left-back Tierney was forced off with a mouth injury after being caught in the face by Jayden Stockley's swinging arm.

"It's impossible to put it into words, but it's probably the best feeling you can have on the football pitch to score the victor in the last minute".

"There was nothing in the game except we lacked a wee bit of legs and impetus to go forward and apply pressure".

"It was fiercely fought and the performance was what I expected and what I was looking for", said McInnes.

"I've only just begun really, so when I leave here people will look on what I did".

"I've had speculation about my players for three months, players out of contract, players under contract".

"If we can do it we will always be remembered and to be part of that would be very special".

Rodgers was full of praise for his treble winners and also paid tribute to their opponents, who put up a good fight.

Rogic said: "It's an awesome feeling to score the victor".

"I don't think you can [top this]".

Rodgers, who hopes to guide his side to a first domestic treble since 2001, admitted that his squad had performed better than he had envisaged when he first met them last summer.

"It was a very tough game".

"The Invincibles thing is an incredible achievement but it is not as if Aberdeen are going to stand back and let us play however we want tomorrow". You have to work for it.

Despite Celtic dominating Scottish football, Rodgers revealed there is still ONE target they didn't achieve.

Both teams spurned a series of chances before Rogic fired home his late victor.

But goals from Leigh Griffiths and Stuart Armstrong gave Celtic a win in their 34th and final game of the season.
