Gregg Allman had one of the most recognizable voices of his generation.

Her comfort food and the restaurant's homey environment were just some of the reasons the band stopped by frequently.

The late musician requested to meet the soon-to-be-married couple to thank them for letting him crash their party, and Kathleen Anderson told People she finally got her chance to meet Allman as well.

"I was out on tour with the Brothers and the end of the tour came and my manager calls me and says, 'listen on your way home to Savannah, Georgia, we want you to stop off in Memphis and meet this guy called T-Bone Burnett, " he said. "Being in the road so much...200 to 250 days out the year, when they came back to Macon, this was their place".

His latest solo album, Low Country Blues, was released in 2011.

Duane Allman had quickly ascended to the pantheon of guitar heroes, not just from his contributions to the Allman band, but from his session work with Aretha Franklin, Wilson Pickett and with Eric Clapton on the classic "Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs" album.

The track is listed in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's 500 songs that shaped rock and roll, and it is one of the few songs covered by fellow influential artist Frank Zappa.

Allman continued recording and touring, both with reunited versions of the Allmans Brothers Band and with his own bands, for some 40 years.

Editor's Note: Gregg Allman died May 27, 2017, at the age of 69. Had a good time interviewing him at length, learned a lot. He often made reference to his brother, thinking of what Duane would have thought of how successful the band had grown.

In 2000, Betts was ousted from the band via fax for alleged substance abuse and poor performance and he hasn't played with the band since. "You've been swallowed up by something you love, you know, and you're just totally engulfed". The pressures of constant touring strained relationships - banishments, illnesses, breakups, reunions.

In the 1990s Gregg Allman moved to California and dabbled in acting, appearing as a drug lord in the 1991 movie, "Rush". You know, he surrounded himself with reminders of his family and of that loss.

Duane got his own guitar too, and learned how to play it by picking along to songs on R&B radio.

Son Michael Allman, who has been described as the spitting image of Gregg, is also making his way through the music industry while battling a hard relationship with his father.
