Bryce Harper Suspension for Giants Brawl Reportedly Reduced to 3 Games

A source confirms to ESPN that Harper's four-game ban has been reduced to three, which the Nationals outfielder will begin serving on Wednesday night. After being hit in the hip by a pitch from Giants' reliever Will Strickland, Harper charged the mound and a brawl ensued. There's no word on Strickland, who received a six-game suspension and also had planned to appeal.

Harper has yet to serve any of the suspension after playing Tuesday night while appealing the decision.

Monday's fight began when San Francisco Giants reliever Hunter Strickland drilled Harper with a 98 miles per hour fastball, prompting the Nats slugger to charge the mound. He also filed an appeal. Strickland did not pitch in the Nationals' 6-3 victory, but Harper started in his customary position in right field and batted third.

"If he did have a problem with it, he could have talked with me during BP (batting practice) and say, 'I didn't like the way you went about it.' That's not human nature, I guess". It's just insane that it even happened yesterday. "Whatever they ultimately decide, I'll own it and take the responsibility". After three years, to do that, I don't know what was going through his mind or how upset he was the last couple years.

It is widely believed that Strickland purposely hit Harper in retaliation for Harper mashing a pair of mammoth home runs against him and showboating during the 2014 playoffs.

Harper has been slumping over the last two weeks.

Giants teammates Michael Morse and Jeff Samardzija collided hard as they tried to get between the two fighters, and Harper said it could have been more serious if that hadn't happened.

Morse got the worst of the collision and was placed on the seven-day concussion disabled list Tuesday.

"I know Buster has our back", Strickland said.
