Kathy Griffin dumped by Squatty Potty after controversial Trump photo

Jun 01, 2017, 00:43

An apologetic Kathy Griffin took to Instagram to issue a mea culpa for participating in a photo shoot that featured her holding up a bloody head resembling President Donald Trump.

Ms. Griffin apologized for the stunt in a video posted Tuesday night, but the backlash has been relentless. "I went too far", she said. I understand how it offends people.

"As a mother, a wife, and a human being, that photo is very disturbing", the president's wife said in a rare statement.

President Donald Trump has said Griffin "should be ashamed of herself" for the video. "I made a mistake and I was wrong".

Kathy Griffin posed for this photo with a bloodied replica of the United States president's head. "My children, especially by 11 year old son, Barron, are having a hard time with this". "I'm taking down the image, and asked the photographer to take down the image, and I beg for your forgiveness".

Griffin earlier defended the video shoot on Twitter, saying "I caption this 'there was blood coming out his eyes, blood coming out of his. wherever.' " Griffin said she was "mocking the Mocker in Chief".

Griffin apologized after the images surfaced on TMZ, which reported the images were taken at a photo shoot, and CNN cut her from its New Year's Eve program Wednesday. The comedian has hosted the network's special for the past 10 years, according to ABC News, alongside Anderson Cooper.

A publicist for Shields did not respond to a request for comment. "We are evaluating our New Year's Eve coverage and have made no decisions at this point". Chelsea Clinton tweeted that the photo was "vile and wrong".

"We're not surviving this, okay?" she said in the footage. In response, Squatty Potty has suspended its ad campaign featuring Ms. Griffin.

Meanwhile, a casino in New Mexico has scrapped a scheduled comedy performance by Griffin after her post.

This isn't the first time Griffin has found herself in hot water.
