Shootout At Texas Car Dealership Leaves 3 Dead

Jun 02, 2017, 01:45

Two bounty hunters, along with the fugitive they had found, died during a shootout Tuesday at a Greenville, Texas, vehicle dealership, the Dallas Morning News reported.

When it was over, Fidel Garcia Jr., 54, and Gabriel Bernal, 33, were dead.

Garcia and Bernal began tracking Hutchinson after he failed to appear for a March court hearing in Hennepin County, Minn.

A district judge from Norman is stepping down after just six years in office, saying the time is right for her to return to private practice.

Police say at least 20 shots were fired inside this auto dealership outside of Dallas, with employees and customers, including their children, running for cover.

"We are charged with the task of apprehending people who fail to appear in court", said Stew Peters, a bail investigator who helped track Hutchinson.

Authorities said the bounty hunters moved toward Hutchinson as he retrieved the gun, and a scuffle involving the three ensued.

The fugitive was wanted in Minnesota on charges that included assaulting a law enforcement officer. Arriving officers found the three men dead.

Family members of Bernal say he worked for Garcia who was the owner of F.N.G.

Rick Ford, the president of the Nissan dealership, told reporters Tuesday night both men presented themselves as federal agents. Ford said he and his employees didn't give the men permission to be in the showroom, but never asked them to leave or to show their badges. "I think about what I would have told my sons and daughters to do, which would have been when you see the guy, Taze him".

Bounty hunters typically take about a 10 percent fee of total bail bond for successful recovery of a fugitive.

A check of state licensing for private investigators maintained by The Texas Department of Public Safety indicates Garcia and Bernal were listed as "commissioned security officers". He said he would've done things differently just knowing the basics of what happened.
