Seager, Dodgers rally for 9-7 win against Reds

The Los Angeles Dodgers have been missing their most consistent bat over the last two weeks. On Sunday, he hit his first career grand slam.

A day earlier, Seager walked off the Reds by hitting a two-run double in the Dodgers' final at-bat.

"That was a huge inning", said Seager. "Besides giving up long drives, I think other things were alright". "It took me 20 years to get one", Seager said.

Seager failed in that regard.

The inning began with a solo home run by Cody Bellinger - his second of the day - against reliever Austin Brice. His velocity dropped from 91-93 miles per hour in his previous start to 88-90 miles per hour in this one, but manager Dave Roberts said he was unaware of any physical issues and said Ryu would make his next start. He allowed three hits, all in the ninth, did not walk a batter and struck out six.

He walked Hernandez on 13 pitches, after Hernandez had fouled off eight.

Utley raised the stakes by drawing another full count, then walking on Iglesias' sixth pitch.

"I thought he threw as well as he has all season", said Dodgers manager Dave Roberts.

In St. Petersburg, Florida, Tampa Bay tied a season-high with five home runs and Alex Cobb went six strong innings in a win over Oakland. Seager then hit a drive to center for his ninth homer.

Ryu has now given up 12 home runs in 57 innings. The Dodgers don't have a decided edge in the pitching matchup, but Ryu has only walked three hitters in his past four starts spanning 22 1/3 innings. Neither he nor Reds starter Tim Adleman (five innings, three runs) factored into the decision.

The Reds could get outfielder Adam Duvall back in the starting lineup. It was Duvall's 15th homer and No. 18 for Schebler.

Two runs scored in the third inning when right-hander Jake Buchanan tried to make a highlight-reel play on Barnes' chopper to the left of the pitcher's mound with the bases loaded. It was just the second time in 17 games the Dodgers allowed more than four runs in a game.

The Reds were held to two hits by Hill (3-2) in his five innings, while Maeda made his first relief appearance since his 2008 rookie season in Japan to earn the save.

The game ended when Eugenio Suarez flied out to center field against Jansen. Dodgers CF Chris Taylor had the defensive gem of the game. "It was a little disappointing but ... at the end of the day we won the ballgame". It seemed like Ryu wanted to show the Dodgers that he could work deep into games tonight, and he was able to do that, though he might have managed to cut a run or two off that total if he wasn't attacking the plate quite so vigorously. Gonzalez has been dealing with a herniated disk between his L4 and L5 vertebrae all season. "He's getting close", Price said.

CF Joc Pederson (concussion, neck strain) homered for the second game in a row in his second rehab start with Triple-A Oklahoma City on Saturday.

"I had a bad game again", Ryu said.

Maeda was only removed from the Dodgers rotation this week.

The game-winner traveled 398-feet, but left the bat at an astonishing 101 miles per hour as Dodger Stadium broke into bedlam after the blast.
