Georgia jobless rate drops to 4.9 percent in May

The unemployment rate for May 2017 was down 0.1 percentage points from the 5.1 percent reported in April 2017. The McAllen-Edinburg-Mission area had the state's highest jobless rate during May at 7.5 percent, TWC officials said. The number of people counted as unemployed also dropped, by 660 from a month ago and more than 2,800 from a year ago.

Houston fared well too, bringing its annual job growth rate up to 1.5 percent.

Most of the May job losses - 1,300 jobs - came in the private sector, in industries such as manufacturing, financial activities, education, and leisure and hospitality.

Alaska lost about 6,000 jobs between May 2016 and last month, according to the state Labor Department.

OC in added a net 3,800 jobs year-over-year, led by 3,700 in construction and 3,100 in professional and business services.
