In 10 years, Apple sold 1.2 billion iPhones

Here's timeline of the 10 years of Apple iPhone. Moreover, the phone was the first of its kind to feature a front-facing camera. An iPod, a phone ... are you getting it?

The iPhone hit its stride in 2008 when Apple introduced the App Store, which allowed developers to make and distribute their mobile applications with Apple taking a cut of any revenue.

We've spent a majority of 2017 poring over dozens and dozens of iPhone 8 leaks. Presenting the iPhone 8, Dummy Edition, of course. From apps to games, it populated their digital shopfront.

A decade ago, Professor Debu Purohit, who teaches the marketing of technology at Duke University's Fuqua School of Business, summed up the excitement tech enthusiasts felt about the imminent iPhone launch.

Newer iPhone models, however, lose this collector's premium.

"One of the improvements that we're expecting in technology is this ability to get vital health information that can be monitored all the time", he said, "and the iPhone will be able to provide that".

The iPhone 3GS, launched in 2009, had an S for "speed".

Past rumors have suggested that Apple is planning to reduce the bezels on the iPhone 8 so that it can fit an iPhone 7 Plus-sized display (around 5.5 inches) in the body size of the iPhone 7 (which has a 4.7-inch screen).

What do you think of this rumored iPhone 8 design? By the time the device was released, on June 29, 2007, hype around the Apple iPhone had helped drive AAPL to a $105.60 billion valuation. Steve Jobs went on stage and showed us a device that was not a first in the smartphone category but one that would forever change it. It came out in October 2011, but the news of the launch was overshadowed by the death of Apple founder Steve Jobs the following day. A 2010 iPhone 4 8GB, for instance, sold this week at $100 on eBay. The iPhone 5 also saw the introduction of the reversible Lightning Connector which replaced the old 30 pin port.

As we get ready to celebrate tomorrow the tenth anniversary of the launch of the Apple iPhone, it is hard to believe that as big as the iPhone was in those early days, and remains through current times, there is a device that could actually be more popular, famous and innovative than Apple's iconic smartphone.

The time on iPhone ads is always 9:41.

"iPhone has become one of the most important, world-changing and successful products in history", said Apple CEO Tim Cook.
