Jerome Kaino returns home from Sydney ahead of All Blacks-Wallabies test

The gloom surrounding Australian rugby union deepened on Saturday as Australia suffered a 54-34 defeat to New Zealand in an action-packed opening match of the Rugby Championship.

All Blacks captain Kieran Read described his side's sublime first-half attacking blitz as "surreal".

But, in an ominous warning for the Wallabies ahead of next Saturday's return bout in Dunedin, All Blacks coach Steve Hansen said: "We got seduced by the scoreboard" and "buttoned off mentally in second half". But you can't fault that first half.

Australian rugby legend Michael Lynagh has savaged the Wallabies' "schoolboy" skills and revealed how his offers to help have fallen on deaf ears.

The Wallabies' pride demanded they grab a foothold somewhere, and they came back with tries to winger Curtis Rona on debut, centers Tevita Kuridrani and Kurtley Beale, who was playing his first test since the 2015 Rugby World Cup, and fullback Israel Folau.

New Zealand scored eight tries, their most in 81 years against the Wallabies, who entered the match with a measure of confidence after a four-week camp.

How to feel after that Wallabies performance?

After revelations emerged overnight regarding his personal life, Jerome Kaino was sent home from Australia overnight with the flanker was replaced by Liam Squire in the blindside role for New Zealand.

Sonny Bill Williams crashed over in the 34th, then Crotty scored his second in the last minute of the first half. Within minutes of the restart, Damian McKenzie scored on after escaping on the right-hand side, before Aaron Smith added an eighth score in the 47th minute. Instead, they compounded the impression that the sport in Australia is in disarray - and New Zealand should have won more convincingly.

"We take these issues very seriously, and are also mindful that these issues affect people with families and loved ones".

The next Wallabies points come from a scrum penalty with the All Blacks having a few issues on the engagement and Foley landed his second of the match.

It was New Zealand's biggest score over Australia, eclipsing their 51-20 win in Auckland three years ago and puts them well on the way to holding on to the trans-Tasman Bledisloe Cup, which they have held since 2003. He said he wasn't going to make many changes.

"With the team we've got, the points should be coming, we've got an attacking type of team so we should be scoring points, but you've got to have both sides of the game".

"I've seen it over this first month that they've been together and this is a roadblock in front of us, of course, and it's going to knock us down but it's not going to stop us".

"We showed in the first half that we really just let the ball do the work".
