GCSE students jump for joy at Ormiston Bolingbroke Academy

Students at Holyrood Academy in Chard are again celebrating after a successful results day.

While unsure of the exact progress score the school achieved, Ruth was confident it was an improvement on last year: "We know we've beaten that by quite a long way this year".

The proportion of students achieving 5 or more GCSE passes at grades A* to C stands at an unparalleled 77%.

Head Teacher, Ms Elaine Purves said: "The results are tribute to the tremendous amount of work our students and staff have put in over the last two years".

Kofi Aliu gained nine A*/A grades, including grade 8s in maths and English literature. I would want to convey my pride and admiration at how those pupils have achieved. "Well done to all, including our parents, who play a vital part in the education and success of their child".

GCSE results for A* to C grades have fallen more sharply by 3.8% to 62.8% compared to 66.6% in 2016.

In maths, the percentage of students achieving a "standard pass" was 68 per cent, with seven students receiving the prestigious grade 9.

Overall results are now provisional and are therefore subject to change.

"We have always focused on the achievement of every student and these results bear out our commitment". A grade 9 is broadly equivalent to an A* grade and 4 is broadly equivalent to a grade C.

Mr Taunt said: "The new English and maths exams are harder than before and the new 9-point assessment reflects the push for the highest standards".

At Soham Village College 67 per cent of students achieved the equivalent of grades A*-C in both maths and English and more than 50 students achieved A*-A grades or equivalent in most of their subjects.

However, it is really pleasing to confirm that the provisional GCSE results for Cumbria indicate that against a backdrop of change and added challenge, Cumbria has improved outcomes this year.

At King's Ely more than half of grades achieved by students were A*s or As.

"The papers are more hard and in some subjects there was real uncertainty amongst teachers and students as to what the exams would look like".

Leo, 16, from Rossmere, I'm a bit surprised.

Other success stories include Rohid Uddin, who arrived in the country from Italy less than 18 months ago with limited English and scored an 8 in maths, an A* in further maths and a grade 5 in English literature.
