German Nurse Suspected of Murdering Over 80 Patients

The German Police disclosed a new report today of the person who killed two patients by lethal drugs overdoses a few years back and was imprisoned for life two years ago.

However, as per Germany's judicial system, his jail term would not be amended given that the former nurse is already serving a life sentence, as it does not allow for consecutive sentences.

The resulting evidence suggests that he may have killed at least 84 more people, officials said.

The crimes came to light after Hoegel was convicted of attempted murder in another case.

Officials say that numerous deaths could have been prevented.

Hundreds of bodies have had to be exhumed and re-examined as part of the investigation.

"Eighty-four killings ... leave us speechless", Kuehme told reporters. "As if that were not enough, we have to accept realize that the real scale of the killings is probably many times worse".

He faulted local health authorities for being slow to act.

"If the people responsible at the time, particularly at the Oldenburg clinic but also later in Delmenhorst, hadn't hesitated to alert authorities ...for example police, prosecutors" then Hegel would have been discovered earlier, Kuehme said during the press conference. The former nurse admitted that he enjoyed giving patients cardiac arrest, since he got a thrill from being able to resuscitate them, abcnews reported Monday.

Amid the media publicity، a woman then contacted police، voicing suspicion that her deceased mother had also fallen victim to the killer nurse. There was no immediate comment Monday from any representatives of victims' families.
