Gators tailback Jordan Scarlett among two suspended for opener against MI

Seven Florida Gator players have already been suspended for the season opener against a tough MI team.

The Gators also suspended receiver Rick Wells, bringing to 10 the total number of Florida players suspended for Saturday's game in Arlington, Texas.

Scarlett and Wells join a list of suspended players that also include would-be starting wide receiver Antonio Callaway.

Florida suspended those players - offensive tackle Kadeem Telfort, defensive end Keivonnis Davis, defensive end Jordan Smith, defensive tackle Richerd Desir-Jones, linebacker James Houston and linebacker Ventrell Miller - in mid-August.

The University of Florida Police Department is investigating an allegation of credit-card fraud related to some football players, public information officer Brad Barber said early Wednesday evening.

According to the Associated Press, the reasoning behind the previously announced suspensions involved "misusing school-issued funds".

The number of Florida players suspended for the opener against MI on Saturday is now 10.

ESPN.com's Edward Aschoff reported the suspensions were due to players "making improper charges on their student IDs at the school bookstore and then selling those items for cash".

The No. 17 Gators now will face the No. 11 Wolverines without their leading returning receiver, Callaway, and rusher, Scarlett, who ran for 889 yards in 2016.

This is just all too much for people to take in, and the reactions on Twitter are just rolling in with the Florida suspensions now hitting double digits. He was suspended from the team, along with former quarterback Treon Harris, in January 2016 in the wake of a sexual assault claim made against the two.
