President Donald Trump today focuses his attention on tax reform

But some in North Dakota had hoped Trump would use the occasion to announce a presidential disaster declaration due to the state's worst drought in decades.

But while the president's team spoke hopefully about bipartisanship, Republican leaders in Congress have made clear that they're pursuing a go-it-alone strategy on taxes that has shut Democrats out of the negotiations. In his remarks there, Trump urged people to vote her out of office if she did not support lowering taxes.

As President Donald Trump visits North Dakota on Wednesday to pitch lower tax rates, progressive activists are gearing up for war.

Trump says he intends to cut taxes by the most since 1981, but the White House still hasn't released a plan with numbers to support the claim.

Gov. Doug Burgum made the request almost a month ago.

"So, this is our once-in-a-generation opportunity to deliver real tax reform for everyday, hard-working Americans".

Also joining Trump on Air Force One on Wednesday will be North Dakota's other senator, John Hoeven, and its sole House member, Kevin Cramer, both Republicans, as well as Treasury Secretary Steven T. Mnuchin, the White House said.

Trump's appearance at the Andeavor refinery in Mandan, near the state's capital of Bismarck, was primarily to make the case for tax changes in Congress.

"It is very important to the President and this Administration that this is really a tax cut for the middle class and working families".

Mr. Trump said America needs tax reform to jumpstart the economy and create millions of new jobs. And that is not the rate that many companies in the USA end up paying. And your senator, Claire McCaskill, she must do this for you.

"The liberals often say, well, you know we care about the children". Also joining the president were Republican Sen. Tom Campbell, has already launched an aggressive advertising campaign.

Behind the scenes, staffers in the House Ways and Means Committee have been fleshing out the bullet points laid out by the White House in its call for a lower corporate tax rate, lower income tax rates and policies aimed at encouraging American businesses to bring overseas profits back home.
