The Mar-a-Lago property, insured to the Trump Organization and Donald J. Trump Revocable Trust, has an unsubsidized policy and has the "full-risk" rate for its flood zone, a FEMA spokesperson told HuffPost. Having described the private resort as the "best club in the world", he hosted the Japanese prime minister there in February. "Some critics say the program benefits affluent people who live on beachfront property, essentially allowing them to live in places that are at a high risk of being damaged".

"A group of Democratic lawmakers introduced a bill in June that specifically aimed to block Trump properties from receiving any federal subsidy for flood insurance coverage", HuffPost noted. In Miami-Dade County, the storm also spurred the start of that region's biggest-ever evacuation effort.
