Najib sets foot in the White House

White House has confirmed that President Donald Trump will welcome his counterpart, Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak of Malaysia to discuss relations between the two nations.

The leaders held the one-on- one meeting at the White House, followed by an expanded delegation meeting with advisers and Cabinet members.

Malaysia's government has said it found no criminal wrongdoing at the 1MDB fund founded by Najib.

Mr. Trump, in a public appearance with Prime Minister Najib Razak, cited the airline deal as a basis for strong ties between the two countries. He was sworn into the position on 3 April 2009 to succeed Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.

Malaysian trade officials said the visit would be an opportunity for Malaysia to explain the trade data discrepancy recorded, and that Malaysia's contribution to the United States trade deficit in goods in 2016 was only 3.37 percent.

But the run-up to Najib's arrival has been dominated by questions about his entanglement in an ongoing US Justice Department investigation.

Trump is expected to visit the region later this year for summits in Vietnam and the Philippines.

On Tuesday afternoon, White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders was asked about the report and defended Najib's choice of lodging - a choice that directly lines Trump's pockets since he still owns the hotel.

"That investigation is apolitical and certainly independent of anything taking place tomorrow", she said on Monday.

They are the military threat of North Korea which has been brandishing nuclear capable missiles, the aggressive incursions by China in the South China Sea where it has built reclaimed islands with air and naval combat hardware in disputed areas, and the rising threat of the Islamic State (IS) terrorist network in Southeast Asia. He said: "We bring to the table a great deal of value propositions".

Malaysian opposition lawmaker Lim Kit Siang painted that appeal as a deflection.

Flanked by Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and Vice President Mike Pence, Trump listened raptly as Najib described Malaysia's purchase of billions of dollars' worth of aircraft from Chicago-based Boeing.

"Najib can not free Malaysia from the ignominy and infamy of being regarded worldwide as a global kleptocrat".

Mr. Najib also didn't mention the Justice Department probe into the 1MDB investment fund in Malaysia.

Najib said, however, that critics 'falsely running down Malaysia's vibrant democracy and spreading smears and falsehoods about this government in foreign newspapers just for political gain is another matter'.
