Over 20000 evacuated across Moscow over various bomb threats

Sniffer dogs were deployed to the sites of the threats.

According to reports, those responsible for the threats were still not located.

Tass reported that over 20,000 people had been affected by the evacuation in Moscow alone.

"There's never been anything like this before, it's 100 percent organized telephone terrorism", Frants Klintsevich, deputy head of the Defense Committee in the upper house of parliament, said in a telephone interview.

Numerous bomb threat calls came from Ukraine, according the news agency RIA.

"The only goal is to set off destructive processes, to sow panic". Also, students and teaching stuff were evacuated from Moscow State University, the Sechenov Medical University, MGIMO International Relations University, Plekhanov State University of Economics, the Russian Justice Ministry's Law Academy and the campus of Moscow Economic Institute.

A source in the emergency services told state-run TASS news agency that over 30 prominent locations including the famed GUM shopping centre on Red Square were temporarily emptied after anonymous telephone threats.

Many were city halls, schools and other official buildings, according to local news reports.

On Wednesday, 15,000 people were evacuated from various facilities across Moscow, after bomb threat calls were made to twelve shopping centres, three railway stations and at least four universities.

Police said that phonecall threats were still coming in.

Russian Federation has been hit by militant attacks, including a bombing on the St Petersburg metro in April in which 16 people died.
