Wisconsin Electric Co-ops Helping with Florida Relief

Officials with Indiana Electric Cooperatives say the workers will leave the state Tuesday.

Electric Cooperative officials say over 100 Arkansas line workers will join at least 200 more from other states who will be traveling to SC.

They will be assisting sister cooperative, Clay Electric, in restoring power to residents hit by Hurricane Irma.

Initial reports from the area indicate the damage seems to be a large number of downed power lines. Spokesman Michael DeFreeuw said crews have always stepped up when volunteers are needed.

PEC crews are scheduled to meet with Talquin Electric Cooperative, headquartered in Quincy, to restore power at a quicker pace over the next several days.

Clay Electric serves 170,000 members in 14 North Florida counties.

Missouri took part in daily conference calls among electric cooperatives that were expected to need help and those that should be out of harm's way.

The Kandiyohi Power Cooperative has also offered to provide assistance in the wake of Hurricane Irma.

From the Rappahannock Electric Cooperative, crews will be helping the Edisto Electric Cooperative of Bamberg, South Carolina.

On Tuesday morning six two man service crews from the Cherokee Electric Co-op left Centre for Live Oak, Florida to assist crews with Suwannee Valley Electric. "Cooperatives are rooted in core principles that shape our values and organizations, and this opportunity to help is a bright reminder of two values we hold close at PEC: cooperation among cooperatives and concern for community".
