Recapping college football polls after Week 3

The top 5 in both polls is the same, starting with Alabama, Clemson, Oklahoma, Penn State and USC.

Oklahoma, which beat Tulane, fell from No. 2 to No. 3. USC dropped a spot after beating Texas 27-24 in double-overtime while Penn State posted a 56-0 victory over lower-level Georgia State.

Six ranked teams lost on Saturday, including four to unranked teams, shaking up the bottom of the Top 25. This also marks the first time since 1946, a 7-0 win over No. 20 North Carolina State, that Vandy has beaten a ranked non-conference opponent.

Oklahoma State rose three spots to No. 6, its best ranking since late in the 2013 season.

The Crimson Tide stayed at No. 1 following a win over Colorado State in Week 3 while Clemson moved up to No. 2 from No. 3 after beating Louisville on the road.

Linebacker Porter Gustin, who had two screws placed in his big toe Wednesday and then recorded two sacks on back-to-back plays in the first half, missed the second half after aggravating the toe injury.

Just like that, Mississippi State is a top 25 team. They earned the No. 14 slot this week after being ranked 17 a week ago. Oklahoma State 7. Washington 8.

Also new to the top 25 are San Diego State, Utah and OR which are ranked 22nd, 23rd and 24th, respectively.

Virginia Tech at No. 13 and Miami at No. 14 round out the ACC teams in the poll.

The highest ranked Group of Five team also resides in the state of Florida as the USF Bulls now sit at No. 21 in the AP poll and No. 17 in the Coaches poll.
