Year Old Brother Dead Before He Protect His Sister From Mother's Boyfriend

The grandmother of an 8-year-old boy is grieving after he was beaten to death with a hammer while trying to protect his young sister from molestation.

The incident took place September 1, when Dante Daniels was attacked by his mother's ex, Deandre Chaney Jr., 23, with a hammer in South Sacramento, California.

The little girl and her mother survived the ordeal, but Dante died six days after the attack.

Police say the suspect, identified as Dante's mother's ex-boyfriend Deandre Chaney Jr., then turned a hammer and knife on the mother and daughter.

"Trying to save his sister from this child molester, and that's why he was beat the worst", Dante's grandmother, Monique Brown, told WSFA.

"Dante gave his heart to a 4-year-old in Southern California, so a four year old lives because of this", she said.

Brown says Dante died trying to stop Chaney from performing a lewd act on his 7-year-old sister.

According to an arrest warrant, the children were home alone with Chaney when the attack happened.

And in his final moments awake, Brown says the 8-year-old was a hero - showing incredible courage in the face of his accused killer. In 2014, he pleaded no contest to battery charges. A charge of lewd acts with a child under 14 have also been tacked on.
