Creed 2 filming date & director announced

For the 71-year-old Stallone - who initially resisted starring in "Creed" - the reinvention of the franchise that launched his career for a new generation has been a pleasant surprise.

Now, it's been confirmed that Sylvester Stallone will not only be returning for Creed 2, but he will also be producing and directing the movie.

Sylvester Stallone will be appearing as a guest star in the next season of "This is Us". The movie will see Michael B. Jordan return to the title role, with Stallone expected to play Rocky once more.

Though the muscly Italian American has become most recognisable as the action hero star of Rocky, Rambo and, more recently, The Expendables, Stallone is an experienced director with eight films under his belt since 1978's Paradise Alley. "One more Round", Stallone captioned the post. Representatives for MGM, which produced the film, and Coogler have not yet responded to Vanity Fair's request for comment.

Speculation has already begun on the fate of Stallone's character "Rocky Balboa" who was suffering from cancer in the last installment. It is possible that "Creed 2" will come out as early as next year.

The film was slated for a 2017 release, however, Coogler and Jordan's commitments to "Black Panther" pushed it to a yet unannounced date.
