Kelly Says He's Not Leaving as White House Chief of Staff

White House Chief of Staff John Kelly speaks during the daily press briefing at the White House in Washington, Thursday, Oct. 12, 2017. 'I don't believe, and I just talked to the president, I don't think I'm being fired today'.

John Kelly hits back at media reports.

"[Gen. Kelly] puts to rest an bad lot of these rumors and this conjecture and these plain out fictions that we see every single day", she said on "The Intelligence Report".

Kelly also said that one of President Donald Trump's biggest frustrations is with the media, suggesting that reporters should "develop some better sources".

"A state that has developed a pretty good ICBM (missile) capability and is developing a pretty good nuclear re-entry vehicle, I would believe ... that that state simply can not have the ability to reach the homeland", Kelly said.

Reports on his imminent departure are greatly exaggerated, the retired general says. "I was not brought to this job to control anything but the flow of information to our president so that he can make the best decisions".

But on Thursday he was in a humorous mood and said: "You guys with the cameras always catch me when I'm thinking hard, and it looks like I'm frustrated and mad".

"It's amusing, I read in the paper, you all know you write it, that I've been a failure at controlling the president or controlling his tweeting", the White House chief of staff said. "Not all of you, but many of you". I will give you the benefit of the doubt that you are operating off of contacts, leaks, whatever you call them, but I would just offer to you the advice, I would say, maybe develop some better sources.

Although Trump recently declared that secretary of state Rex Tillerson was "wasting his time" trying to negotiate Pyongyang, Kelly added: "Let's hope diplomacy works".

"Right now we think the threat is manageable", he said, but added the situation would become more problematic over time if North Korea's capability "grows beyond where it is today".

"Me personally?" the reporter questioning him asked.
