Nearly half of Americans think media make up stories about Pres

A Politico/Morning Consult poll released on Wednesday showed that 46% of Americans believe that media organizations invent stories about Trump, compared to 37% of Americans who did not believe that the media invents stories about the president.

Only one in five Democrats have bought into Trump's media outrage, but 44 percent of independents think the media is making up stories.

Trump has been diminishing the media since the days of his campaign when he seized on the phrase "fake news". Another 17 percent were undecided.

Among voters who said they strongly approve of Trump's job performance, 85 percent said the media invents stories about the president and his administration.

Among party lines, 76 percent of Republican voters believe the media puts out untrue stories about the president, while only 11 percent think the media is honest in its coverage of Trump. For Democrats, about 20 percent do believe the media make up stories, but 65 percent do not believe this.

Morning Consult conducted the poll between October 12-16 and surveyed 1,991 registered voters.

"It is actually much worse than this!" he said.

And yet the poll found that only 28% of voters believe the government should yank the broadcasting license of news organizations, with the majority - 51% - saying it should not be able to do so. The President tweeted last week, questioning what could be done to revoke the licenses of broadcast media outlets.

On Tuesday, Trump called major news networks "fiction writers". The margin of error is 3 percentage points.
