Timeline: Trump's Las Vegas vs. NY responses

Border control in the United States will be strengthened by order of President Donald Trump.

Donald Trump responded to the deadly attack in NY in typical fashion on Tuesday, via Twitter.

In a tweet Wednesday morning, Trump confirmed the suspect entered the U.S.as part of the State Department's Diversity Immigrant Visa program - a lottery system where 55,000 immigrant visas are available annually. "Being politically correct is fine, but not for this!", the president said in a post to Twitter Tuesday night.

Multiple media reports have cited police sources in identifying the suspect as 29-year-old Uzbek national named Sayfullo Habibullaevic Saipov, who came to the United States in 2010.

At a press briefing, New York City mayor Bill de Blasio and New York governor Andrew Cuomo condemned the attack as an act of terrorism but urged New Yorkers not to be afraid of further attacks. The US termed the incident as an "act of terrorism".

In practice, that promise so far has been labeled "enhanced vetting", which has been implemented in regards to the U.S. Refugee Admissions Program.

Much has been made of the very different responses from President Donald Trump for the Las Vegas shooting that claimed 58 lives, when a gunman opened fire from above during the final act of a a country music festival, and the NY attack, where a driver plowed into a bike lane just before rush hour.

Prior to his tweet surrounding the initiative, Trump attacked ISIS by stating that the USA should not open its borders to terrorism.

Asked to reconcile his responses to the attacks in Orlando and Las Vegas, Sanders suggested Trump had adopted a different tack since assuming the mantle of the presidency.

Earlier, the USA president took to Twitter to decry the attack, saying "we must not allow ISIS to return". "It takes a little while to get the facts", Trump said then. We need quick justice, and we need strong justice, much quicker and much stronger than we have right now.
