Battle for Azeroth Expansion Takes Series Back To Its Core Fundamentals

With a return to form for the story and a confident new lineup of modes, activities, and systems, Battle for Azeroth could be the expansion that returns World of Warcraft to its former glory.

Blizzard has a metric ton of upcoming content for World of Warcraft players, both those looking forward to the future and those pining for the past.

At least it means players don't have to spend time creating and maintaining their own vanilla servers, something Blizzard has taken a dim view of in the past.

This alone would be enough to get any old-school World of Warcraft fan excited, with "vanilla" being a reference to the servers as they were before expansion packs changed the meta of the game.

"Fans of World of Warcraft around the world, we hear you", Brack told the crowd.

Horde players will be able to quest through the tropical land of Zandalar, while Alliance players will be visiting the seafaring kingdom of Kul Tiras. Six new "allied races" join the fight, with three playable for each faction (and supposedly more coming after launch), including Void Elves, Lightforced Draenei, Blackiron Dwarves, Highmountain Tauren, Zandalari Trolls, and Nightborn.

For years there's been friction between World of Warcraft players wanting access to classic, "vanilla" servers (without all those later expansions and upgrades), and Blizzard, which preferred everyone to be using newer versions of the game, thank you very much. The overall level cap will also go up to 120, at which point the world quests and allied race emissaries will become available. Gamers will explore these islands with up to two other players, but no two experiences will be the same; even when players visit the same island twice, they will find new challenges and missions. Blizzard did not give an official release date for Battle for Azeroth, but don't expect it before spring 2018 at the earliest. The more powerful theHeart of Azeroth, the more powerful abilities can be given to the armor.
