Trump adviser Page describes meeting with Russian official during 2016 campaign

Page's comments provide the latest confirmed contacts between members of the Trump campaign and Russians during the presidential race.

Page played down those comments, telling Schiff that his insights were drawn from listening to Dvorkovich's speech and public statements, and from reading the Russian press and watching Russian television.

"In a private conversation, Dvorkovich expressed strong support for Mr. Trump and a desire to work together toward devising better solutions in response to the vast range of current worldwide problems", Page wrote, according to Schiff.

"Nearly six in 10, 59%, say they think Trump himself knew a year ago that anyone associated with his campaign had contact with suspected Russian operatives, while only 35% think the then-GOP nominee did not know about those contacts".

Speaking on CBS's "Face the Nation", Senate intelligence committee ranking Democrat Mark Warner, of Virginia, said he might want to hear more from Sessions.

The two men had a brief interaction at the commencement ceremony, where Dvorkovich also spoke, Page said.

The transcript of the six-hour interview confirms that Page invoked his Fifth Amendment privilege against turning over to the panel certain documents - including those involving his July 2016 trip to Russian Federation - for two reasons. Both pleaded not guilty on October 30, when prosecutors warned that they might flee the USA before their trial if their bail terms weren't stringent enough.

"I'm working on my lawsuit tonight that will get to the bottom of the real interference in the 2016 election, by the [United States government]".

The federal prosecutors, however, said they can't tell the properties' actual values, and his Palm Beach Gardens home could be worth a quarter-million dollars less than Manafort claims. A photo showed Sessions also attended that campaign meeting, and a source told CNN that at the meeting, Sessions vetoed the proposed Trump-Putin sit-down.

A spokeswoman for Sessions declined to comment; Clovis' attorney did not immediately respond to a request for comment Monday night.

All 10 committee Democrats signed a letter asking Sessions about questions on Russian ties to Donald Trump's presidential campaign.

"He didn't say yes and he didn't say no", the official said, declining to be more specific about Trump's response to Papadopoulos.

J.D. Gordon, a former Trump campaign foreign policy adviser who was at the March 2016 meeting, told Reuters that Papadopoulos indeed "made a pitch for meeting with Putin".

Gordon said he does not recall the email but that he had discouraged Page from going to Moscow.

Schiff called the Russian links to Papadopoulos and Page two parallel efforts by the Trump campaign to make contacts with Russian interests.

Trump has said he does not recall ever speaking to Page. Page's testimony also revealed that more campaign staff members were aware of his July 2016 trip to Russian Federation than had previously been disclosed, including Jeff Sessions, who is now the attorney general.
