Meek Mill's Sentence May Have a Dark, Corrupt Backstory

In ending Mill's probation, Brinkley cited technical violations including misdemeanor arrests in New York City and St. Louis and providing a urine specimen that showed he was using the prescription narcotic Percocet.

"If the original sentence was at least for 4 years in prison but mostly got suspended because of probation, then it's legal to impose 2-4 years if he violates the terms", Robert Weisberg, Director of the Stanford Criminal Justice Center tells Billboard.

Rapper Jay-Z branded Meek's sentence "unjust and heavy handed", and insisted he will "always stand by" the star.

A Philly judge sentenced the popular rapper to 2 to 4 years in prison for violating probation in the almost decade-old case. He also accused Meek Mill of "just thumbing your nose at me" with his repeated violations.

Mill has been on probation for a 2009 drug and gun case.

Mill was quoted as pleading for mercy with the judge, saying, "I'm human". You gave me the ladder to do what I have to do to prevail in my struggle. "He caught a charge, he was like 19, he's 30 now, he's been on probation 11 years". "But this judge, excoriated both of them, challenged their credibility and overrode both law enforcement agencies recommendations and went from zero to two to four years, which shows that she clearly had a personal vendetta against this guy", Tacopina said.

Jay-Z continued, "This 4:44 album is all about us moving forward, moving past things, and in order for us to move past all the shit that we're going through we gotta address it".

Brinkley said the "Dreams and Nightmares" rapper failed a drug test and refrained from notifying her of his traveling schedule. "I have seen this with parole officers messing with famous people for deals. a judge could be removed from the bench and it is a crime, [though] each state has different statutes for this".
