Mitch McConnell: 'I believe the women' accusing Roy Moore

Two Republican lawmakers from IL have called on U.S. Senate candidate Roy Moore of Alabama to end his campaign in the wake of allegations of decades-old sexual misconduct with a 14-year-old girl.

To augment Nelson's story, she also shared a copy of her yearbook from that year, which Moore had signed just weeks before the alleged attack. The woman, Beverly Young Nelson, said at a press conference that Moore sexually assaulted her when she was 15 and 16. Moore was the district attorney of Etowah County, Alabama, at the time and Nelson said she trusted him and saw him as an important local figure.

During a CNN interview on Monday, Brandon Moseley, a reporter at the Alabama Political Reporter, argued that allegations such as the ones being leveled at Moore shouldn't disqualify the candidate.

"I tried fighting him off and yelling", she tearfully recalled, but "instead of stopping, he began squeezing my neck and attempting to force my head into his crotch". I'm going to vote for Roy Moore to make a statement.' So, I don't interpret the 29 percent as condoning what Roy Moore did.

Walker's office did not immediately respond Monday to an inquiry asking if his views on Moore had changed or whether he wanted to address the statements from Shilling and Taylor. "I had tears running down my face", Nelson said.

"I tried to open my auto door to leave, but he reached over and he locked it so I could not get out". McConnell was also asked whether he believed the allegations by Corfman and the three other women. It says Moore is innocent and "has never had any sexual misconduct with anyone".

"Roy Moore's wife Kayla writes on Facebook the campaign is gathering evidence the Moore accusers were paid to come forward - which will part of their lawsuit", he wrote in a subsequent tweet.

Since the first allegations were published on Thursday, a growing list of Republican senators have called on Moore to step aside, culminating on Monday with Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., who said, "I think he should step aside," in response to a question about Moore's next steps.

Moore denies the allegations in the Post story saying they are politically motivated to harm his candidacy as a Republican candidate for Senate. Luther Strange, the loser to Moore in a party primary, he said, "We'll see".

In the past few months, President Trump has had a tumultuous relationship with Sessions, due in no small part to his frustration with the attorney general's recusal from the investigations into Russia's 2016 election interference. "I believe the women, yes", he said.

Even if Moore were to step aside, his name would likely remain on the ballot.
