Danica Patrick Will Retire From Racing In 2018

Patrick recently lost her NASCAR Cup seat at Stewart-Haas Racing to Aric Almirola for the 2018 season.

The AP reported her likely Indianapolis 500 team will be Chip Ganassi Racing and the race will be her last one.

Patrick announced that the 2017 season was her last as a full-time driver, Holly Cain of NASCAR.com reports. Her 2018 plans are rather interesting, though, with Patrick announcing that she'll compete in both the Daytona 500 and Indy 500 before retiring from racing all together.

The 35-year-old Patrick says once she accepted that then the idea of capping her run at Indianapolis Motor Speedway popped into her head.

While it was also widely believed that Patrick would never drive in IndyCar again following her leaving the sport after the 2011 season, she will be ending her racing career following her run in the 2018 Indianapolis 500, the "Greatest Spectacle in Racing". And she dazzled in multiple appearances in the Indy 500, qualifying and finishing fourth in her rookie start in 2005.

The races? The Indianapolis 500 and the Daytona 500.

"But this seems right, and this seems good".

I am happy that she is doing it on her terms, but I am sad because I feel like there are wins under her belt that she can still get.

Her career crossroads was put in motion when GoDaddy left auto racing after 2015, then new sponsor Nature's Bakery was unable to fulfill its three-year commitment to SHR and Patrick. I've never had sponsor issues. I don't want to be remembered for the things that didn't go as well.
