South Carolina White House Invitation: NCAA Team Declines Visit

All nine McKendree bowlers who competed in the NCAA tournament - along with head coach Shannon O'Keefe, director of bowling Bryan O'Keefe, graduate assistant coach Matt Farber and Athletics Director Chuck Brueggemann - attended the ceremony, which honored the team for winning the NCAA championship in April.

President Donald Trump hosted college sports championship teams at the White House on Friday, although the SC women's basketball team declined the invitation.

In a statement Thursday night, Staley said the team did end up hearing from the White House but chose not to attend.

"We did hear from the White House about attending tomorrow's event, but we will not be able to attend", said Staley Thursday. "It's what national champions do".

Oklahoma won its first men's golf national title since 1989 when the coach Ryan Hybl-led team knocked off OR in Sugar Grove, Ill.

Days later, when queried on the topic again, Staley said, "Here's my take, and I'm not going to discuss the White House anymore". As far as I'm concerned, I'm over the White House thing. She also defended her team's move. "I don't know what else has to happen". "The only invitation I would like is an invitation to get into the NCAA tournament in March".

SC has a game on Sunday, with a practice scheduled for Friday. One of my favorites occurred back in September when President Trump invited the NBA Champion Golden State Warriors to the White House.

The teams were invited by U.S. President Donald Trump. The North Carolina men's basketball team - whose coach, Roy Williams, has been publicly critical of Trump - begged off, citing a scheduling conflict.
