Derrick Rose steps away from Cavaliers, considering basketball future

On Friday afternoon, several reports came down the wire stating that Cavs point guard Derrick Rose has chose to leave the team for the goal of "re-evaluating his future in the National Basketball Association". Rose, who signed with Cleveland in the offseason to become part of LeBron James' supporting cast, has been inconsistent as he continues to battle injuries, and the setbacks reportedly are weighing on him.

The repeated injuries are weighing on Rose with a team source telling ESPN, "He's exhausted of being hurt and it's taking a toll on him mentally". He would later win the MVP with the team in 2010-11 season. In the seven games he has played, he is averaging 14.3 points on 47 percent shooting, 2.6 rebounds and 1.7 assists.

The 29-year-old is now dealing with an ankle injury.

Now in his eighth season in the league, Rose has struggled with injuries throughout his career.

The Cavaliers said that Rose's current absence is excused.

According to the report, Rose is "tired of being hurt and it's taking a toll on him mentally".

It's been more than two weeks since Derrick Rose last suited up for the Cavs, and now there's a chance the former NBA MVP may never play again. He missed 27 games during the 2011-12 season that was only 66 games, and then in the first game of the playoffs, he tore his ACL in his left knee.

Because of this injury, he missed an entire 2012-13 season.

Cleveland put Rose in a walking boot last week in hopes of alleviating pressure on his left foot.
