Other parts of the country where assembly by-elections will be held on December 21 include Sikandra in Uttar Pradesh, Sabang in West Bengal, and Pakke-Kasang and Likabali in Arunachal Pradesh.

The EC had yesterday announced that the R K Nagar bypoll would be held on December 21.

Just a day after "the two leaves symbol" was allotted to unified AIADMK, election Commission has announced the date for By-poll to Dr Radha Krishnan Nagar Assembly constituency in Tamil Nadu. The last day to file nomination is December 4 and the last day for withdrawal of nomination is December 7.

On December 5 past year, AIADMK leader and Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa died and shortly after that the party split into two factions. These two leaders had been in opposing splinter groups of the party the last time the by-election had been announced.

He declined to comment on the party's probable candidate to fight the by-election.

Taking the lead in the by-election to the RK Nagar Assembly constituency, the DMK on Saturday announced that the party had made a decision to retain N Marudhu Ganesan as its official candidate, who contested the April by-election.

He said this will be the first election to be faced by the AIADMK government after the death of Jayalalithaa and also after it got the "two leaves" symbol.

"Our candidate is in the fray with the support of our allies".

Meanwhile, BJP State president Tamilisai Soundararajan held discussions with senior leaders at the party headquarters regarding the bypoll.

Late Friday night, Dinakaran declared at Tirupur that he himself would be the candidate of the faction headed by his aunt VK Sasikala.

The constituency came into prominence after Jayalalithaa chose to contest the seat in June 2015 after the Karnataka high court acquitted her in the disproportionate assets case.
