Ms Markle may not have been a familiar name in the United Kingdom until recently, but in the U.S. she was known for her role as Rachel Zane in TV legal drama Suits.

Congratulations are in order to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, who announced their engagement on Monday.

Britain's most eligible bachelor proposed to the California native earlier this month after receiving her parents' blessing, according to the Clarence House.

They continued this year when Harry arranged for his girlfriend to get to know the Duchess of Cambridge at a private meeting in Kensington Palace. To see her union with Harry, who shares the same qualities, is a source of great joy for both parents.

The proposal comes within a year of when the lovebirds went public with their relationship.

When Kate Middleton stepped out for her first official appearance as Prince William's fiancée in 2011, she wore a royal blue wrap dress from London-based clothing label Issa.

The 36-year-old LA native spoke of her royal relationship for the first time earlier this year telling Vanity Fair: "We're two people who are really happy and in love".

The couple made their first public appearance since making the announcement in a photo call outside Kensington Palace.

The pair also announced that Ms Markle will not continue acting.

Speaking exclusively to from her home in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Roslyn Markle, the mother of Meghan's half-siblings, said: 'That's absolutely wonderful news.

Forgoing royal family history, Prince Harry may opt for a more intimate venue, unique to him and his fiancé.
