White House plan to replace Tillerson with Central Intelligence Agency chief

U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson talks to members of the media at the State Department in Washington, DC, U.S. on November 20, 2017.

The Washington Examiner, citing a former White House aide, reports that Tillerson's decision last week not to send a senior State Department delegation for Ivanka Trump's widely touted trip to the annual Global Entrepreneurship Summit in India was "the last straw" for Kushner and has led him to be a key voice calling for Tillerson to be fired. Now, instead of having a former fossil fuel CEO at the helm of foreign policy, the United States will have an Islamophobic Koch Brothers shill-who built his own business using Koch money and owes his political career first and foremost to their deep pockets.

White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders said Mr Tillerson was still secretary of state.

"Tillerson was one of the most blatant revolving door cases in the Trump administration and a clear sign that Trump's government was of, by, and for the fossil fuel industry", said Louaillier in a statement.

Nauert says Tillerson serves at the president's pleasure and remains in his role until told otherwise.

If Cotton is appointed and confirmed to a Trump administration post, he'd be temporarily replaced in the Senate by Arkansas's Republican governor, Asa Hutchinson, before a likely special election to fill the rest of his term later this year.

But he still would suffer from problems that have afflicted Tillerson, chief among them a boss who has shown little regard for diplomacy and no qualms about undermining his secretary of state with tweets, current and former USA officials said.

Mr Tillerson would be replaced with Mike Pompeo, the director of the Central Intelligence Agency. On several occasions, the president publicly undercut his diplomatic initiatives.

In a major foreign policy speech on USA relations with Europe under Trump's "America First" foreign policy, Tillerson pledged that sanctions against Russian Federation will remain in place until it helps restore peace in Ukraine.

A source familiar with Tillerson's thinking said the secretary of state's original plan when he took the job was to leave in February.

"There has been a kind of Cold War going on between these two", Wallace noted, adding there has seemed to be a rift between Trump and Tillerson on handling North Korea. The senator has advised Trump on issues like the Iran nuclear deal and immigration.

The White House insists no change is imminent.
