YouTube Will Launch a Streaming Music Service in March

In corporation with the Google Play Music services, YouTube is going in a new direction.

YouTube plans to launch a new music subscription service in March, Bloomberg reported Thursday, in what would be Google-parent Alphabet's third attempt to challenge rivals Apple and Spotify.

The sources say Remix would have "Spotify-like" on demand streaming with YouTube videos incorporated. No pricing details have been confirmed as yet. A Play Music subscription already lets users enjoy ad-free YouTube content and Red originals as part of the package. Combining Prime Music and Music Unlimited, Amazon has 16 million subscribers on its streaming music platforms, according to recent estimates (though other estimates put Amazon ahead of Apple).

YouTube has apparently already struck a deal with Warner Music Group. For that matter, YouTube also needs to negotiate with Vevo, which holds the rights to many music videos.

This new product is seen as possibly appeasing "record-industry executives who have pushed for more revenue from YouTube".

But what about YouTube Red, isn't that good enough? Publishers, labels and artists alike have long accused YouTube and other services of hurting their profits.
