The Handmaid's Tale season 2 first look

We'll be seeing more of Aunt Lydia's backstory, as teased by showrunner Bruce Miller in a New York Times interview a year ago.

Are you looking forward to the new season? Though Offred still misses her husband (who is in Canada, trying to contact her) and daughter (who is oppressed but safe in a girls' school), she has grown close to Nick, and is pregnant with his baby. Season 1 pretty much ended the way the book did and while showrunners have admitted they have saved some material from the book to be used this season most of the material is going to be new and fresh, essentially expanding the universe created by Atwood so long ago. "In episode two, we go to the colonies". In Australia, The Handmaid's Tale screened on SBS on Demand, however a date hasn't been released.

Executive producer Bruce Miller said season one will feature plenty of horror and dread.

But, having seen little of Season 2, critics anxious it was going to be Underground Railroad Season.

June's pregnancy, as you might imagine, puts her in a very complex emotional position.

Check out the first official teaser for Season 2, as well as a few mesmerizing first look photos, below. Members of the Broadcast Television Journalists Association also chose to honor the drama with three Critics' Choice Awards nominations resulting in three wins in the Best Actress in a Drama Series (Elisabeth Moss), Best Drama Series, and Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series (Ann Dowd) categories. "It's a wonderful thing to have a baby, but she's having it potentially in this world that she may not want to bring it into it". The sophomore season will explore the social and political conflicts that led to Gilead's succession from the United States. The Emmy and Golden Globe award-winning drama follows June (Elisabeth Moss), a "Handmaid" who is forced to bear children in a religious, totalitarian society where escape is virtually impossible.

The Handmaid's Tale's season 2 will be out on April 25. There have been scenes that they've written and shot for the series, "only to see nearly exactly the same images on television". Hulu has the 13-episode second season debuting April 25 on the streaming service.

The continuance of the story will expand on Atwood's novel and has been described by producers as "uncharted territory", with Offred last seen in Season 1 being whisked away in a black van to an unknown destination.
