Ivana Trump Says Donald's Not Racist, Just Confused

In 1973, the family business, of which Trump was president, was sued by the Department of Justice for refusing to rent apartments to African Americans. Trump spent the holiday weekend at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach, Fla.

Without explicitly denying using the vulgarity, Trump lashed out at Durbin, who said Trump uttered it several times during the meeting. Lindsey Graham had suggested cutting back on the number of people participating in the visa lottery program, when the president began to complain about the US taking immigrants from Haiti, El Salvador, and African countries.

The president denied making those remarks and most of the Republican lawmakers in the room either said they didn't hear the reported words or didn't remember them.

"Honestly I don't think the Democrats want to make a deal", Trump said. "Durbin blew DACA and is hurting our Military".

"We agree to the importance of strong relations between South Africa and the United States that are based on mutual respect and understanding", U.S. Embassy spokeswoman Cindy Harvey said in a statement. Members of Congress from both parties are trying to strike a deal that Trump would support to extend that protection.

The senator also suggested, if the White House has a recording of the meeting, it should be released to the public.

Senator Lindsey Graham, another Republican participant, told fellow South Carolina Senator Tim Scott the media reports of the comments were "basically accurate", according to The Post and Courier. The president, in the meeting, also questioned the need to admit more Haitians to the United States, according to a number of accounts of the meeting. "It is the American dream", Trump said.

Durbin, Cotton, and Perdue were in an Oval Office meeting with four other senators to discuss a bipartisan effort to protect immigrants who have participated in the Obama-era Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, while increasing border security. "I'm the least racist person you have ever interviewed".

The denial late Sunday came three days after Trump was quoted as calling African nations and Haiti "shithole countries", setting off a storm of condemnation that threatened to derail a bipartisan compromise on immigration.

"I am stunned that this is their defense".

"What the president said in that meeting was so bad and so impactful on so many people, that when he denied saying it, I felt duty-bound to clarify what actually happened", Durbin said.

The reverberations kept coming today. I don't talk like that.

He added, "We got to find a way to work on this man's heart".

Similar sentiments were expressed at marches in NY and Los Angeles while a small group of demonstrators waving Haitian flags faced off with Trump supporters in West Palm Beach. But she says she doesn't "dispute the president was using tough language". Worshippers stood and applauded as Watson spoke.

On Monday, Mr Durbin doubled down on his statements, telling reporters that he stands by every word he said. On Friday, in the immediate aftermath, he had said he could not recall the conversation.

Trump insisted in a tweet on Friday that he "never said anything derogatory about Haitians other than Haiti is, obviously, a very poor and troubled country".

48% of respondents to an MSN poll said it was racist of President Donald Trump to refer to African nations and Haiti as "shithole countries". "Do we need more Haitians?"

"He said, 'Put me down for wanting more Europeans to come to this country".

Word of Trump's comments threatened to upend delicate negotiations over resolving the status of hundreds of thousands of immigrants who were brought to the country illegally as children.
