Padmaavat: Bikes set ablaze in Gujarat; theatres refuse to screen film

In a most recent development, Gujarat theatre owners have said no to screen the film, as there is a big terror of vandalism and threats which engulfs the state. "They were taken into custody when they gathered for protesting against the film", a senior police official said. "We have received a letter saying that we want you to watch the film".

The Supreme Court on Tuesday rejected the final appeals by the governments of BJP-ruled Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh that had urged the court to retract its earlier order to the Centre and all states to ensure that the epic period drama directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali was released without any hindrance.

In the meantime, the Karni Sena too has moved the top court seeking a relook at the January 18 order by which the top court had paved the way for the film's countrywide release.

Joshi, chairperson of the Central Board of Film Certification, is scheduled to be in Jaipur on January 25, the day the film is due for release. Several theatres have also voluntarily decided not to screen the movie. It reached to a stage where the supreme court has entered the scene in protecting the creative freedom, freedom of speech and artistic freedom.

The Rajput body also announced that a nine-member committee would watch the film on Mr. Bhansali's invitation on the condition that the film-makers make changes if anything "objectionable" was found in it.
