White House may address immigration plan, State of the Union

President Donald Trump "wasn't a part of the decision-making process" that led to Monday's exit of Deputy FBI director Andrew McCabe, White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders insisted shortly after word broke of the exit.

McCabe went on leave from the Federal Bureau of Investigation on Monday, pending the effective date of his retirement in March, said two government officials familiar with the move.

Trump's not-involvement dates back at least to May, when, according to Washington Post, he asked McCabe who he voted for in the presidential election.

McCabe is stepping down effective Monday.

.

The sources, speaking on condition of anonymity, told the newspaper that the IG report looks into actions taken by McCabe and other bureau officials during the campaign, when the FBI was probing both Hillary Clinton and the Trump camp's ties to Russian Federation.

McCabe was serving as the FBI's acting director at the time. "It's like an insurance policy in the unlikely event you die before you're 40".

FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe will no longer serve at the FBI in that capacity. Some exchanges suggest that the two officials had concluded months before the end of the Clinton investigation that the FBI would not charge her with a crime.

It was also reported last week that the president had asked Mr McCabe during an Oval Office meeting whom he voted for.

In a 28 October 2016 exchange, FBI agent Peter Strzok wrote to colleague Lisa Page that the bureau's chief of staff "very clearly 100% believes that Andy should be recused because of the "perception".

The inspector general is also looking into whether Comey made improper decisions, including his decision to announce the FBI would not recommend charges and his subsequent decision to publicly announce he was re-opening the investigation just 11 days before the 2016 election, after new emails were discovered. Trump also reportedly berated McCabe over the political donations his wife received from McAuliffe.

Mr Trump had reportedly asked Mr McCabe who he voted for in the 2016 United States presidential election, according to current and former officials in the report.

The exact reason behind McCabe's early departure from the agency remains unknown, AP said.

"Well, certainly McCabe was taken aback by this phone call".

A FBI spokesperson said the bureau had no comment on the reports about McCabe.
