'Father Of Black Historical past' Celebrated In Google Doodle

The UM Gospel Choir performs furing the university's Black History Month opening ceremony February 1 in Fulton Chapel.

Members of the Unified Black Student Society helped raise the flag on one of the center flag poles in front of the university's Arts and Sciences building.

This month, students are not only celebrating the achievements made by African Americans but, also recognizing the central role of blacks in US history.

Thursday marked the start of Black History Month. The university not only celebrates Black History Month but has many civil rights icons among its alumni.

The National Museum of African American History, designed by British-Ghanaian architect Sir David Adjaye, is the recipient of the Beazley Design of the Year Award for 2017. "There are things that my parents said to me that their parents said to them that are recognizable by black folks from MS to Miami to Chicago to Philadelphia".

Promoting Woodson's important contributions to academia and American culture is central to Burnis R. Morris' work at Marshall.

The Kings Foundation Dream All-Star Awards - the team's annual Black History Month honors - salute local community leaders, nominated by their colleagues and peers, for their achievements, accomplishments and efforts to make positive impacts throughout the Sacramento region.

"Black folks have always been a people of seekers, makers and doers", he said. "We are geared to making our community understand that (the celebration of Black History Month) begins with Woodson".
