AT least three people were killed and four others injured yesterday when a helicopter carrying tourists in Arizona went down in the Grand Canyon, United States authorities said. "It is too windy and it's dark and the area is very rugged".

"The ladies were screaming.It was just frightful", he said.

Fox News adds word from the Federal Aviation Administration that the helicopter sustained substantial damage when it hit the ground.

Crews will work Sunday to retrieve the bodies of those who died in the crash, Bradley said, but weather conditions were hampering efforts.

He said National Transportation Safety Board officials were expected at the crash scene to begin investigating the cause.

The carrier has not commented on the crash at the time of publication.

The company says it flies roughly 600,000 passengers a year on Grand Canyon and other tours.
