Diamondbacks acquire Steven Souza in three-way trade with Rays and Yankees

Souza had just arrived back in Rays camp on Tuesday after attending to a family matter in Seattle and was asked about the departure in recent days of teammates Jake Odorizzi (traded to Twins) and Corey Dickerson (designated for assignment).

NY gave up two prospects in the deal - right-handed pitcher Taylor Widener is going to Arizona, and second baseman Nick Solak to the Tampa Bay Rays.

According to FanRag Sports Jon Heyman, the Yankees received Brandon Drury in the deal from Arizona, while the D-Backs acquired veteran outfielder Steven Souza from Tampa Bay.

Piecoro adds that the D-backs will send left-handed reliever Anthony Banda to the Rays in this deal.

Brandon Drury, 25, hit.267/.317/.467 for the D'Backs past year with 13 homers and 63 RBIs. The Yankees dealt prospects Nick Solak to the Tampa Bay Rays and Taylor Widener to Arizona in the deal.

The 28-year-old Souza has four years of Major League Baseball experience.

A second-round Yankees draft choice out of Louisville in 2016, Solak rose to the Double-A level last season and fared well with Double-A Trenton.

Widener, 23, was selected by the Yankees in the 12th round of the 2016 draft.

Drury, 25, comes to the the Yankees from the Arizona Diamondbacks, where he spent the first two-plus seasons of his career. He also struggled with the Diamondbacks Triple-A affiliate Reno Aces going 8-7 with a 5.39 ERA. This past season with High-A Tampa, he pitched 119 1/3 innings and posted a 3.39 ERA with a 129/50 K/BB ratio.
